Macy’s
Turning Sustainability Into an Engine for Growth
When Macy’s set out to turn its sustainability commitment into action, it partnered with Refried to transform unsold inventory into distinctive, marketable products—creating new value from merchandise that would otherwise be offloaded through off-price channels.
Tested in select Market by Macy’s small-format stores, the pilot demonstrated a commercially viable approach to inventory renewal. Instead of liquidating unsold merchandise, the model creates a repeatable pathway for surplus inventory, giving retailers a scalable way to continuously convert underperforming products into new merchandise while reducing waste and strengthening its sustainability story.
The result: a globally recognized retailer turns surplus inventory into a new commercial asset—creating revenue opportunities, differentiated products, and measurable sustainability value.
